Hornets Again Rack Up MPSF-High

SACRAMENTO STATE tallied a 2016 MPSF-high for the second-straight week (194.900) to win a road dual at San Jose State (Jan. 15). Kalliah McCartney competed in her first all-around of the season and totaled 39.075 to finish first, her first all-around title since 2014. She finished first on beam (9.850), second on floor (9.875) and third on vault (9.800). Cassie Benning won two titles, sharing the honor on bars (9.775), while posting the top score of the meet with a 9.90 on floor. Julia Konner tied for the vault win (9.825) True freshman Lauren Schmeiss was third on floor (9.80), to help the Hornets accumulated 49.075 in the event.
UC DAVIS accumulated 194.325 in its home opener Friday (Jan. 15) against Seattle Pacific and Boise State, placing ahead of the Falcons. Stephanie Stamates won beam (9.85) to lead an MPSF season-high team total of 49.025, fourth-best all-time for the Aggies and tied for 12th all-time in the MPSF in the event. Kara Jones, Alexis Brown, and Katy Nogaki (9.80) completed the Aggie sweep on beam. Dani Judal was third on bars (9.80).
SAN JOSE STATE Erica Matos and Allison Bellingham tied for first on vault and uneven bars, respectively, to lead San José State in a home dual meet against Sacramento State (Jan. 15). The Spartans scored a 193.400 in the meet. Matos tied her career-best (9.825), while Bellingham, a last-minute replacement in the bars lineup, scored a 9.775 in her first career bars routine.
SEATTLE PACIFIC Ariana Harger placed second all-around (37.900) in a tri-meet against UC Davis and Boise State. Two-time All-American Maria Hundley shared the vault title (9.80). The Falcons totaled 189.900 for the meet.
AIR FORCE tallied a season-high 188.875 at the Knoxville, Tenn. Ozone Collegiate Classic Saturday (Jan. 16), featuring Iowa State, SE Missouri State, and Pittsburgh. Jamie Lewis was sixth all-around (37.800), while the best Falcon event finish came from Kara Witgen, taking eighth on floor (9.775).
ALASKA-ANCHORAGE opens its season Jan. 23 at Bowling Green.
