MPSF Results-Day Four

Swimming (Monterey Park, CA):

-Jake Taylor of BYU broke his own MPSF 200 back record from 2015 (1:40.96). It marked the third conference record-setting event for Taylor in the meet.

-Payton Sorenson of BYU broke his own morning prelim record in the 100 free (42.94), his second conference record for the meet.

--Bri Jurries of San Diego broke one of the two remaining records which were left from the inaugural year of MPSF Swimming & Diving in 2011. She went 2:11.83 in the 200 breast, becoming the first-ever Torero to set an MPSF record. The mark was also a new facility record at East LA College, set in 2015.

-After setting two women's MPSF records earlier in the meet, Hawaii's Franziska Weidner posted another title in the 100 free (49.31).

The 400 Free Relay MPSF record was broken for each gender, by the BYU men and UCSB women. The Cougar men finished the 2016 MPSF Championships with all six men's conference records. There were five MPSF records for the women, three for Hawaii and one each by UCSB and USD.

Diving (Pasadena, CA)--

-Hawaii swept the platform diving, with Amund Gismervik (387.65) taking the men's title for the third-straight year, and Aimee Harrison (241.05) winning her second MPSF Diving Championship in three days.

Monterey Park, CA---Two MPSF Championship meet records were broken on the third day, both by the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine. In three-meter diving, Aimee Harrison accumulated 349.25 in the prelims, before winning the event finals. Then in the evening in Monterey Park, Franziska Weidner went 1:46.23 in the 200 free finals to take down her second meet record, one day after setting the new standard in the 200 IM. Solie Laughlin of UC Davis was a double-event winner, taking first in the 400 IM (4.14.80) and 100 back (54.40), before leading off the winning 400 medley relay (3.40.34). On the men's side, BYU's Kevin Dreesen won the three-meter (406.25), to make it two-for-two in MPSF Diving titles. Two other Cougars won MPSF titles Friday, including Jake Taylor (100 back-45.74) and Stephen Richards (400 IM-3.49.21). Taylor's time was .21 off his own meet record from last year (45.53).

Monterey Park, CA---The 200 IM highlighted the second day of the MPSF Championship meet, as the conference record was broken for each gender. BYU's Jake Taylor broke his own event record from two years ago on the men's side (1.43.53), his second record-setting swim in this year's meet (800 free relay on day one). Hawaii's Franziska Weidner took down the four-year-old women's 200 IM MPSF record (1.57.93). A third MPSF record was broken in the morning prelims, with Payton Sorenson of the BYU men going 19.53, before winning the finals .04 under that with an NCAA 'B' cut. Diving opened up at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center on Thursday, with BYU's Kevin Dreesen winning the one-meter board (388.75), and Hawaii's three-time MPSF Athlete of the Year Aimee Harrison taking the women's one-meter title (310.50).

Monterey Park, CA---Day one of four is complete at the MPSF Championship Meet, held at East Los Angeles College for the fifth consecutive year. The BYU men won both the 200 medley (1.26.51) and 800 free relays (6.26.28), going for a meet record in the latter event. Pacific placed second in both events (1.26.80; 6.28.52).

On the women's side, UC Santa Barbara came out on top in the 200 medley relay (1.40.55), before Hawaii posted the top time in the 800 free relay (7.14.75). The Gauchos were second (7.16.57 ) in the 800, while UC Davis posted a bronze finish in each relay (1.41.76; 7.19.64).
