No. 11 AIR FORCE accumulated 425.350 in winning its seventh-straight USAG National Championship (Mar. 25) in Springfield, MA. The Falcons defeated Army (413.850), Navy (412.850) William & Mary, (405.100), and Springfield (402.600) in the varsity field. Tim Wang posted the second-best all-around in Academy history (88.150). The next day in the event finals, Wang defended his USAG pommel horse title (15.400), and earned second-place results on parallel bars (14.300) and high bar (14.425) to also earn USAG All-America honors for both. Jeff Robinson was named the USAG Varsity Head Coach of the Year, while Josiah and Josh Loeser shared the USAG Varsity Assistant Coach of the Year. The MPSF Championship at Stanford is up next on Saturday (Apr. 2).
No. 1 OKLAHOMA capped off an unbeaten regular season as it won a dual at No. 5 Illinois (Mar. 19), 444.750-433.050. The Sooners have knocked off 39-straight opponents since the 2015 season opener. Kanji Oyama shared the event title on floor (15.250), Allan Bower recorded the top vault (15.100) along with the all-around victory (89.700), Yul Moldauer put up a meet-high 16.000 on parallel bars to also tie his career-high, and Josh Yee won high bar (14.700). Oklahoma won every team event except pommel horse, highlighted by a 75.650 on floor. Next up for the Sooners is the MPSF Championship meet at Stanford (Apr. 2), where they have won the last four conference titles and 13 of 16 in the Mark Williams era.
No. 2 STANFORD hosts the MPSF Championship meet Saturday, April 2 in Burnham Pavilion at 4 pm (PT). Stanford tallied 435.800 at No. 1 Oklahoma (Mar. 5). The highlight in the meet came on the vault, as Gabe Flores won the individual title with a career-best (15.250), and Stanford winning the event as a team (74.200). Other career-highs came on high bar (Brian Knott, 15.200), parallel bars (Jacob Barrus, 13.650), pommel horse (Ryan Sheppard, 14.900; Drew Willoughby, 15.150), and still rings (Jordan DeClerk, 15.050). Sheppard also matched his career-high on vault (14.750).
No. 5 CALIFORNIA recorded an all-time program-best 442.150 (Mar. 13) in the final home meet of the year, as the Bears blew past Army and Washington. Kyle Zemeir hit on all six of his routines in his final home meet of his career (Mar. 13). He posted all-around scores of 89.350 (Sunday), which is a career-best, and 88.400 on Senior Night (Mar. 11). His performances on individual events saw him set new career-best marks on vault (15.150 in both meets) and tied his career-best on parallel bars (15.250 on Sunday). In the second meet, Kevin Wolting recorded the 2016 national-high on vault (15.600), while the Bears set program record totals on rings (73.700), vault (74.700), and parallel bars (74.250).
