UC DAVIS 17, Presbyterian 5

Recap by UCD

DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore midfielder Taylor Cuenin scored a career-high five goals while fellow second-year attacker Shannon Cross added a personal best of four as UC Davis rolled to a 17-5 win over Presbyterian in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Aggies improve to 2-3 for the year. The Blue Hose remain winless at 0-4.

Cuenin, who finished her hat trick by the 12th minute of the contest, also led UC Davis with four caused turnovers and ground balls. Cross also had two assists for six total points. Kelsey DeJesus, Shannon Geary and Sorana Larson added two goals while freshmen Amanda Outcalt and Kate Graham each chipped in one. Outcalt also had a team-best of three assists, with Cross, DeJesus and Geary contributing two apiece.

The Aggies never trailed in the contest, scoring eight unanswered in the first 14 minutes to start the contest. Cuenin had three goals in that span, while Outcalt and Geary each fed two assists. Presbyterian managed a pair of eight-meter goals to get on the board, only to have Cuenin, Cross and DeJesus to net three goals in the span of 77 seconds. UC Davis led, 12-2, at the halftime break.

The Blue Hose answered UC Davis goal-for-goal early in the second, but the Aggies maintained at least a 10-goal margin the rest of the way. Larson made it 15-4 on an 'accidental goal' in the 51st minute. DeJesus passed it to the freshman, whose stick made glancing contact with the ball. However, the errant ball rolled untouched through the crease and into the PC net.

Larson and DeJesus each had five draw controls, leading the Aggies to a commanding 18-6 margin in that category. UC Davis also had a sizable edge in ground balls at 29-17, with Cuenin's five and Kate Fellner's four leading the way. Lauren Ali handled goalkeeping chores for the first 42 minutes, notching three saves and a ground ball. Grace Richards, the converted attacker, came in for the last 18 and posted a pair of stops.

UC Davis continues its four-game homestand against Coastal Carolina on Monday for a 2 p.m. game.

STANFORD 15, Michigan 10

Recap by Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. -- A close battle through the first half didn't deter the 17th-ranked Cardinal as Stanford saw Elizabeth Cusick, Kelsey Murray and Anna Salemo complete a trifecta of hat tricks to move Stanford's win streak to three with a 15-10 win over Michigan Tuesday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

The Cardinal (4-2) rolled out of the gates quickly with Kelly Myers and Kelsey Murray going back-to-back to make it 2-0, but it would prove to be an incredibly tenacious effort by the Wolverines (0-5) who were able to knot the score seven times in the course of the game -- four in the first half alone.

UM's Jess Angerman put the Wolverines on her back with four goals in the game with a pure back-to-back-to-back hat trick in the first half to give Michigan the lead. From there the teams played ping-pong with the lead with four lead changes before Anna Salemo put Stanford up 7-6 with her eighth goal of the year to send it into the half.

Michigan scrapped to open the second half tying the score twice with Stanford, but the Cardinal ultimately ended that with 22 minutes remaining in the half off a nasty assist from Elizabeth Cusick to Kelsey Murray to make it 9-8.

The Cardinal cranked it up the rest of the half, outshooting the Wolverines and besting them in ground balls 14-10 while forcing 13 turnovers. The Cardinal went on a surge through the remaining 20 minutes, heating up for a four-goal streak that it followed with another three unanswered goals to shut the door on Michigan.

The Cardinal returns to action next week as it sets to host the Tribe of William and Mary on Wednesday, March 8. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at Cagan Stadium.
