Oklahoma junior Morgan Seyler (Flower Mound, TX) won the all-around crown in the Sooners’ first home meet of 2021 against Air Force (Jan. 23), putting up a 76.700 to win the title by three points. Seyler registered career-bests on still rings (13.300) and high bar (13.100) and collected a runner-up finish on floor exercise with a 14.300 routine. This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Seyler.
TOP-RANKED SOONERS EXTEND WIN STREAK INSIDE McCASLAND
No. 1 OKLAHOMA totaled a winning 413.750 in its home-opening meet against No. 13 Air Force (Jan. 23)…The Sooners posted the top-four placements in each individual event, and won each team apparatus…The final result extended the Sooners’ win streak to 75-straight inside McCasland Fieldhouse, dating back to 2007…The OU vault squad recorded a 2021 NCAA-high 73.200 in the event, led by the first-place score from Spencer Goodell (14.800)…Other Sooner event victories came from Gage Dyer on floor (14.750), David Sandro on parallel bars (14.200), Matt Wenske on rings (13.900), Zach Nunez on pommel horse (13.750 in first career home meet), and Sandro Guimaraes on high bar (13.650)…Morgan Seyler was the all-around winner (76.700), highlighted by career-bests on still rings (13.300) and high bar (13.100), and a runner-up finish on floor exercise with a 14.300.
No. 13 AIR FORCE scored 374.400 during its first 2021 road meet at top-ranked Oklahoma (Jan. 23)…Allen Shadan and Garrett Braunton picked up fifth-place finishes on the parallel bars (13.500) and high bar (13.200), respectively…Shadan equaled his personal-best of 13.300 to tie for sixth on the still rings and Braunton posted a career-high of 14.100 – the 15th-best mark in Academy history – to earn the same placement on the vault.
No. 1 STANFORD is the nation’s top-ranked team in the College Gymnastics Association Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The defending NCAA Champion Cardinal, which returns seven All-Americans, has not yet begun the season.
No. 11 CALIFORNIA is scheduled to begin the 2021 season Saturday (Jan. 30) against Arizona State, in a virtual meet.
