2021 MPSF Gymnast of the Year
BRODY MALONE · JUNIOR · STANFORD
Stanford University junior
Brody Malone (Summerville, GA) becomes the third gymnast to earn three-straight MPSF Gymnast of the Year awards (Akash Modi-Stanford, 2014-17; Jon Horton-Oklahoma, 2006-08). Malone won 12 of the 15 (80 %) events he entered after competing in the last four regular season meets. He captured three event titles on pommel horse, three on parallel bars, two on still rings, two on high bar, one on floor, and the only all-around he competed, and finished top-three in 13 of 15 events entered (87 %). Malone posted the highest parallel bars score in the nation, and is the only gymnast this year to go 15-plus in the event (15.100). He ranks first nationally on parallel bars (14.683), owns the second-highest high bar score (14.450), fourth-highest pommel horse score (14.500), and second-best all-around score (86.500) through March. He also ranks fourth nationally on pommel horse (14.117) and ninth on still rings (13.933). Malone was a two-time MPSF Gymnast of the Week (Mar. 9 and 30). Malone is Stanford’s 10th MPSF Gymnast of the Year in the last 18 years (Malone, 2019-21; Modi, 2014-17; Tim Gentry, 2011; Sho Nakamori, 2009; Dan Gill, 2004).
2021 MPSF Coach of the Year
THOM GLIELMI · 19th YEAR · STANFORD
Stanford University Head Coach
Thom Glielmi guided the Cardinal to a No. 3 national ranking through the regular season. In spite of starting the season approximately one month late, Stanford ranks on top of the nation on the vault and parallel bars, third on still rings, fourth on pommel horse and high bar, and seventh on floor exercise. Stanford was one of just three teams in the country to reach a 412 total in a meet, doing do twice (Mar. 7 and 27). Glielmi, who coached Stanford to the 2019 NCAA championship as well as titles in 2009 and 2011, has established the Cardinal as a perennial national contender. Stanford has placed among the top-five at the national championships for 14 consecutive seasons. This is the fifth MPSF Coach of the Year award for Glielmi, including his third consecutively (2021, 2020, 2019, 2014, 2009).
