2022 MPSF Player of the Year
MILES PARTAIN · #24 · SOPHOMORE · SETTER · UCLA

UCLA sophomore setter Miles Partain (Pacific Palisades, CA/Palisades HS) has guided the top-ranked Bruins to the nation’s No. 1 team offense heading into the postseason, setting the squad to a .378 overall season hitting percentage, well above the next-highest across the country (.352). UCLA hit over .300 in 21 of its 24 regular season matches, including all 12 conference matches and the last 15 overall matches. UCLA also hit over .400 in 11 matches this year. Partain started all 24 matches and was the setter in 88 of UCLA’s 90 total sets. He averages 10.33 assists per set to rank seventh in the NCAA. Defensively, he averages 1.63 digs and 0.63 blocks per set. Partain was a multiple weekly award winner in the MPSF this year. He was named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week after setting the Bruins to hitting percentages of .452 and .386 in a pair of wins over No. 8 Pepperdine (Apr. 7-9) to help the team clinch the MPSF’s No. 1 seed for the first time since 1998. It marked the 12th and 13th consecutive matches in which UCLA hit at least .300 as a team. He earned defensive player of the week on January 24, following a career-high 11 digs in a win over Ohio State, along with three blocks and seven digs in a win over No. 3 Penn State. Partain is UCLA’s first MPSF Player of the Year in the rally scoring era (since 2001). UCLA’s side-out era recipients of the award were Brandon Taliaferro (2000), Stein Metzger (1996), and Jeff Nygaard (1995 & 94).

2022 MPSF Freshman of the Year
GUY GENIS · #9 · R-FRESHMAN · MIDDLE BLOCKER · UCLA

UCLA redshirt freshman middle blocker Guy Genis (Tel Aviv, Israel/Alliance HS) was the only freshman to earn either a first or second team All-MPSF honor this year. He is the MPSF leader in blocking average entering the postseason (1.04 B/S), and ranks third in the conference in hitting percentage (.521) on the top hitting team in the nation. He is one of just two freshmen to be ranked in the MPSF’s top-10 in hitting percentage for overall matches. Genis hit at least .500 in 15 of his 23 regular season matches. He took home his first career conference award when he was named MPSF Defensive Player of the Week on February 7, after a then-career-best six block assists in a four-set win at UC Irvine. He hit a career-best .706 against UCI two days later. He then had a career weekend at Stanford (Mar. 11-12), setting his personal-high of 14 kills (.455) in the first match, followed by nine blocks (just one off the 2022 MPSF season-high) in the second. Genis is UCLA’s third MPSF Freshman of the Year recipient (JT Hatch-2015; Brandon Taliaferro-1997).
