DAVID HUNT · FIFTH YEAR · HEAD COACH · PEPPERDINE
Pepperdine Head Coach
David Hunt has guided the 2022 Waves to a 19-9 season (.679) and No. 5 AVCA national ranking entering the NCAA Tournament. Pepperdine is headed to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament, just the third such streak in program history, and first streak of three-in-a-row since making four-straight appearances from 1983-86. Pepperdine had to win the MPSF Championship to lock in that third-straight NCAA berth, which it did, by winning three grueling tournament matches over a four-day stretch. The Waves defeated sixth-seeded BYU in five sets, second-seeded USC in four, and fifth-seeded Stanford in five to become the first No. 3 seed since 2007, and first non-top seed since 2012, to take home the conference title. Through the MPSF Tournament, the Waves as a team rank in the NCAA’s Top-10 in assists (12.55, 2nd) and kills per set (13.16, 5th), along with hitting percentage (.329, 7th). This is Hunt’s second MPSF Coach of the Year honor in his five years at the helm of the program, while he owns a career record of 78-37 (.678). Hunt’s recognition this year represents the fifth all-time MPSF Coach of the Year award for Pepperdine (Hunt-2022, ‘19; Marv Dunphy-‘07, ’05, ‘02).
