MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK


Oklahoma junior Zach Nunez (Cypress, TX) registered the second-highest all-around score in the nation this season (83.400) to lead the Sooners’ win over No. 15 Simpson College (Feb. 4). He was the first Sooner to go all-around during NCAA competition this season, posting season-bests on floor (13.800), pommel horse (14.400) and parallel bars (14.100). He competed on rings (13.500) and high bar (13.450) for the first time this season. Nunez posted the fourth-highest pommel horse score in the nation. This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Ninez.

MPSF FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK


Oklahoma freshman Ignacio Yockers (Tulsa, OK) notched a 14.600 on pommel horse in the Sooners’ win over No. 15 Simpson College (Feb. 4). The score was his second-highest of the season and ranks third-best nationally this year (he also holds the second-best score of 14.800, set last week). This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Yockers, including a repeat from last week.

MPSF SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK


Oklahoma junior Dan Simmons (Cypress, TX) stuck his vault and notched a 15.050 score in in the Sooners’ win over No. 15 Simpson College (Feb. 4). Simmons’ vault was OU’s first 15-plus score of the season, the best vault score in the nation this week, and the second-highest vault score nationally this season. He added a 13.400 on rings. This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Simmons.
