The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) has announced the addition of seven schools comprising of 12 programs to its indoor track & field membership, beginning with the upcoming 2026-27 season. The men and women from Boise State, Colorado State, Sacramento State, Utah State, and Utah Valley will enter the conference, while the women from San Diego State and UC Santa Barbara will also join. Five of the seven schools and eight of the 12 teams will be first-time members in MPSF Indoor Track & Field. The MPSF’s 34th indoor track & field championship is scheduled to feature 31 teams--19 women and 12 men--and will take place February 26-27, 2027, at the Podium in Spokane, Washington. The 31 MPSF Indoor Track & Field programs will be the largest since 2020, when 35 competed.

The seven teams mentioned above will join Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Pacific, Pepperdine, Portland, San Francisco, St. Mary’s, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and Washington State.

Since hiring MPSF Commissioner Foti Mellis in 2021, the conference has added 99 teams, 47 schools, and eight sports. "The addition of these exceptional programs reflects the strength and momentum of MPSF Indoor Track & Field," said Mellis. "Our member institutions are committed to providing an outstanding championship experience, and we are excited to welcome both longtime conference partners and first-time participants as we build the future of MPSF Indoor Track & Field together. We look forward to an outstanding championship in Spokane."

Utah State, located in Logan, Utah, was an original member of MPSF Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field from 1993-2004. The men won the first contested MPSF team championship in 1993, before the women were crowned champions the following year. The Aggies accumulated 13 individual men’s titles and eight on the women’s side during their first 12 years in the MPSF. Three Aggies earned second team All-American honors this past season on the men’s side—Logan Hammer (pole vault), Ayodele Ojo (60 meters), and Landon Bott (800 meters).

Boise State competed in the 1997 MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championship, the school’s only appearance in the conference’s history. Boise State competed in the Mountain West for the last 15 years and, prior to that span, won five men’s team titles in the WAC from 2004-11. 2026 Mountain West Champion Landon Helms earned second-team All-American honors in the men’s heptathlon, as did Kaiya Robertson in the women’s mile.

Located in Fort Collins, Colorado State is making its first appearance in the MPSF in any sport. The Rams have been in the Mountain West since 1999, where their men and women each won seven team titles, including the last three consecutively on the men’s side. The Rams had two NCAA women’s qualifiers who earned All-American honors in the throws this past season; Mountain West record-holder Kajsa Borrman (weight throw, first team) and Makayla Long (shot put, second team).

Sacramento State enters the MPSF from the Big Sky Conference, where its programs won seven women’s and three men’s team titles dating to 2007. While the Hornets will be competing in MPSF Indoor Track & Field for the first time, the school has been a member of the conference in women’s gymnastics since 2014 (and previously from 2002-05) and was a men’s soccer participant from 1992-2011.

Utah Valley, located in Orem, Utah, enters the MPSF for the first time in any sport. UVU Indoor Track & Field has spent the last 14 years in the WAC. The men’s team is coming off its first conference championship since 2015, while the women took home the 2025 WAC title. Sila Kiplagat was named the 2026 WAC Men’s Freshman of the Year, and Head Coach Scott Houle was named men's coach of the year.

The San Diego State women will make their first appearance in MPSF Indoor Track & Field, coming off their final season in the Mountain West. The Aztecs formerly competed in the MPSF in women’s water polo and lacrosse and were original men’s volleyball and men’s soccer members.

UC Santa Barbara will be competing in a women’s indoor conference championship for the first time. The Gauchos are also re-entering the MPSF in men’s and women’s swimming & diving this year and have previously been conference members in men’s volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s gymnastics, and men’s and women’s water polo.

The MPSF enters 2026-27 with 127 total national championships across 10 different sports dating back to 1992, including a conference record-setting six titles during the 2025-26 academic year. The MPSF’s 117 NCAA titles lead the nation amongst Division-I Non-Power Four Conferences.
