Doug Drabik Named Associate Commissioner for External Communications
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Commissioner Foti Mellis has announced the appointment of Doug Drabik as Associate Commissioner for External Communications.
“Doug is an outstanding addition to the MPSF and brings tremendous experience, credibility and expertise to our staff,” Mellis said. “His background in communications, broadcasting and media rights will be a tremendous asset as the MPSF continues to grow. I have known and respected Doug for many years, and we are incredibly excited to have him join our team and help us continue to elevate the MPSF nationally.”
Drabik brings more than 20 years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, broadcast operations and executive communications to the conference.
In his role, Drabik will lead the MPSF’s external communications strategy and direct the conference’s media relations, branding, content and public affairs efforts, working with conference leadership to elevate the Conference’s national profile. He will oversee the MPSF’s content distribution and storytelling efforts, and assist with the MPSF’s media rights and corporate partnerships. Drabik will also play a role in the operational execution of all conference championship events.
Drabik joins the MPSF after seven years at the West Coast Conference (WCC), where he served on the senior leadership team as the Associate Commissioner for Communications and Broadcast. During his time with the WCC, he directed the communications team with oversight of the Conference’s public relations strategy and broadcast operations. He managed the conference’s national media rights partnerships with ESPN and CBS, as well as the digital network with ESPN+. Drabik also served as the WCC’s sport administrator for baseball and men’s water polo.
Prior to his time at the WCC, Drabik served for four years at the University of California, Berkeley and later at Stanford University, where he directed the communications strategy for each department’s men’s basketball program.
A New Jersey native, Drabik spent six years in the Rutgers University athletic communications office, where he served as the communications director for the football and baseball programs. He began his career as the Sports Information Director at Steven’s Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Drabik earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Maryland. During his time in College Park, he served as a student assistant in the athletic communications office, contributing to the media relations efforts for the Maryland men’s basketball program’s 2001 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four appearance and 2002 NCAA Men’s Basketball championship.
